Yang Ji's life story is like a delicate handcrafted painting, filled with profound cultural heritage and rich life experiences. Born in Jiazhou (now Sichuan Leshan), his family had served the Jiangnan region for generations, while his own life trajectory was closely tied to Wucheng (now Jiangsu Suzhou). The beauty of the landscape and the long history there enriched his poetry.

Ji's life can be said to have experienced a series of transformations from Zhang Shicheng's court as a secretary to the Secretary General's Office, then as an officer in charge of taxation in Yunchang, and finally as a governor of Shanxi Province. Each step left behind precious treasures. However, it was also during this period that he suffered from slander and lost power before passing away while serving labor punishment. Yet his spirit remained immortalized by later generations.

Ji's poetic style is characterized by its clarity and finesse among which "The Yueyang Tower" stands out for its expansive atmosphere. He wrote extensively on critical theory in "Ten Thousand Words on Critique," showcasing both erudition and deep thought early on in his career. During gatherings with friends such as Yang Weijin at whose table he composed "Iron Flute," one could not help but marvel at their extraordinary talents.

Moreover, he formed friendships with high-caliber poets such as Gao Qing, Zhang Yu, Xu Bian who together became known as the "Wucheng Four Giants." Their camaraderie facilitated mutual artistic growth and added an unique touch to literary history afterward.
