During this time, he was known for his ability to adapt to new things and quickly learned the new versions of classic plays such as "The Legend of Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai," "The Jewel Tree," and "The White Snake." He also experimented with new stage techniques such as lighting and scenery.
In 1952, King invited him to Shanghai to perform in a production of "Heavenly Matchmaker" alongside Pan Jinqi. His portrayal of Dong Yong was highly praised by audiences. The following year, Anhui Province established its own Huangmei Opera troupe, but King remained with the People's Theatre Troupe in Anqing before eventually joining the provincial troupe.
In 1955, he starred in China's first Huangmei Opera film, "Heavenly Matchmaker," which helped spread the art form nationwide and internationally. Throughout his career, King created many iconic characters such as Dong Yong from "Heavenly Matchmaker," Liu Wenju from "Lady-in-Waiting," Shidake from "Khan Baoying," Hou Gong from “No Trouble at All,” Bao Zheng from “Chen State Laments,” etc., with Dong Yong being one of his most successful roles.
King is also known for creating a unique singing style that blended elements of Peking Opera with those of traditional Chinese music. This innovative approach helped establish him as one of the pioneers in developing Huangmei opera into a distinct art form.
Throughout his life, King has been recognized for his contributions to Chinese culture. In addition to being an actor on stage and screen, he has also served on various boards including becoming an elected representative at Anhui Provincial People’s Congress (Anhui Province People’s Congress) where he represented people interests; further more he joined Communist Party China (CPC) in 1960 years later after that period when king become member CPC continue acting until end up died
