那个时代，由于动物尸体中之磷的燃烧、裸露的煤炭因地表压力引起的自燃、森林在极端干燥下因吸收太阳热量而引起的大面积燃烧，原始人类经常可以看到火光，有时可以见到连续不断的森林大火。但那时的人却不认识火，视为怪物，视火为不详，将绕着它走开避开居住。
随着中国原始人类数量的不断增多，在商丘终于出现了一位智者。他有超越常人的行为别人绕火而行，他却哪里有火便向哪里去；别人避火而居，他却经常在有火的地方居住；别人捡到被火烧死的小动物总是随手扔掉，他发现被火烧死的小动物总是撕些肉放入口中细细品尝。
